FAQ: How Does NEM Enrollment Work with WCE?

Net Energy Metering (NEM) is applicable for all customers with on-site renewable energy systems, such as solar panels, to receive credits on their energy bill when they generate more energy than they need. If you were already enjoying the benefits of a NEM program with SCE, as WCE customer your account will automatically enrolled in WCE’s Choice Solar Program.

What is the Benefit of WCE’s Choice Solar Plan versus SCE’s NEM Program?

With WCE you can earn substantially more for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) you provide back to the grid compared to other utility programs. At the end of each month, WCE tallies the amount of grid energy you have consumed and the amount of energy you have contributed back to the grid. If you generated more energy than you consumed, you will be issued a credit on your bill that can be applied to charges in future months. If you consumed more energy than you generated, you will be charged for the energy you drew from the grid at a rate less than SCE’s rate.

Annual True-Up

Each year on your bill anniversary date, which we refer to as the “annual true-up date”, your annual kilowatt usage is evaluated. If your energy generation exceeds your energy consumption, you will be issued a rebate.

WCE is dedicated to bringing the community cost comparative rates that result in a savings on your electricity bill. WCE’s Choice Solar Plan offers a higher Net Surplus Compensation Rate at $0.06900 per kWh.

Why Doesn’t WCE Have an Annual Bill Payment Option for Choice Solar Plan Customers?

WCE bills monthly for any generation usage that is not covered by bill credits so you won’t end up with a year’s worth of generation charges and a large true-up bill at the end of the year.
